Fullarton Troon Links; 9th July 2018

In The Beginning:

Weather great, sun was shining and as we say in Glasgow ‘Taps Aff’ and time for a game of gowf.  Ali’s armed with brother Stewart’s old golf bag, a few rusty clubs from the garage, golf-buggy (£10) and pink Lacoste polo shirt (£9) from the charity shop and a pair of non-regulation shoes.  Susie on the other hand has been shopping and is ready to christen her ever so pink Dunlop bag, matching clubs and new regulation shoes.   A couple of dabblers, eager to make their mark on the golf course, what followed was a reminder that they should really have been to the driving range before hand.

Ali, forever on the hunt for a bargain and value for money, found us a ‘hot deal’ for £17 each for 18 holes at Fullarton Links, sounded good value so easily booked on the website.  Website easy to use so off we went, makking sure we met early for a roll and bacon and cup of tea.  A wee bit apprehensive as this was our 1st outing, in the 2nd  home of golf (St Andrews here we come!) but considering this we were pleasantly surprised.  A relaxed friendly atmosphere awaited us in the clubhouse, excellent modern facilities,  nice decked outdoor seating area, there was  a nice buzz about the place.  They obviously knew who they were dealing and ensured that Ali ‘value for money’ Padraig-Harrington and I were treated like a couple of members and were gifted with memebers rates.  £6 in total for 2 cups of tea and 2 rolls and bacon, crisped to our Susie’s perfection and likewise to Ali’s pricing structure.

Golf underway.  Tee off 10.41hrs , that old feeling of 1st tee nerves.  But nothing to worry as we both rose to the occasion and drove a couple of decent balls down the 1st, hoping this was the shape of things to come.  However……. the card speaks for itself. Lovely course, we’re definitely benefitted from the bone dry fairways as our balls rolled on forever.  A few lost balls and headcovers retrieved by some youngsters ( future pro’s by the look of them).    Beautiful setting, lovely scenery and lush greens.  Easy to navigate, no great hazards and short enough for a 4 hour round.  So back to the clubhouse for  coffee and cake (no empire biscuits much to Susie’s disgust!) and a post match analysis -£3 all in so again great value.

The Journey Begins!

A tale of 2 Scottish ladies – Ali Padraigh-Harrington & Susie Ballesteros   – as we travel around some of the best and ‘worst’ golf courses on offer.  As well as taking on this challenging game we will provide a sweeping saga of pre-round bacon rolls, ill-fitting shoes bought on e-bay and impatient sods playing up ‘yer erses’.  Every lost ball on our journey should hopefully be an inspiration to all you aspiring golfers out there who are too ‘feart’ to get out and take advantage of this mystical sport.

We’ll review everything from the best deals on booking prices, how to deal with stuffty Club Secretaries,  how to look the part on a budget to the all important course review.  We plan to give you an exciting, funny myth busting account of the best and worst that golf has to offer.

So, from a couple of tartan birdies we look forward to hearing from fellow birdies (or indeed eagles!) ……….so lets go golfing.
